Meet the Lads.

Meet John and Barry Harrington, the dynamic brother duo who have been at the helm of the bakery for the past 30 plus years, steering it with a blend of tradition and innovation. As the fifth generation of Harrington bakers, they've seamlessly continued the family legacy, infusing their own expertise and passion into every loaf and pastry that emerges from the ovens.

With four decades of experience under their belts, John and Barry have not only preserved the bakery's heritage but have also adapted to changing tastes and preferences, introducing new flavors and products while staying true to their roots. Their commitment to excellence and their deep-seated connection to the art of baking have been instrumental in the bakery's enduring success.

Their dedication to their craft and their community has solidified Harrington’s Bakery as a beloved institution in Youghal and beyond.

A trip down Memory Lane

Harrington's Bakery has been an integral part of Tallow St. in Youghal since the 1930s, originally known as Hannon’s Bakery, strategically positioned at the Waterford end of town.

The bakery's journey under the Harrington name began in 1974 when George Harrington took over. Born in 1937, George's career started at the age of 14 as an apprentice baker at Harrington’s Bakery on Church Street, Cork, where he learned amidst the chimes of Shandon’s Bells. His apprenticeship spanned seven years, including a year as a Journeyman, traveling to various bakeries, notably in Cobh, a daily commute by train.

In 1974, George relocated to Youghal, purchasing the bakery at 6 Tallow St. from Mrs. Hannon, thus establishing Harrington’s Bakery Youghal. Baking has deep roots in the Harrington family, spanning over five generations and more than 40 years in Youghal.

In June 2011, the tradition expanded with the opening of our store in Dungarvan Shopping Centre, Co. Waterford, further cementing our commitment to delivering quality baked goods to the community.
